People on a diet increased their weight loss by 20 pounds (9 kg) or more when they had higher vitamin D levels
For the study, 38 overweight people followed a standard calorie restricted diet.
For 11 weeks they ate 750 fewer calories per day.
The results showed that the higher their vitamin D levels before they started dieting, the more weight they lost.
Those with higher levels of vitamin D in their body also lost more belly fat.
